President's Day Weekend

The Laminate Floor that was in our bedroom. It looked good, but it was a pain

See how gross it was!
The finished product

It all started last Saturday when Michael and I were really bored... Michael always loves to go look at things at different stores even if we have no intention of buying. He likes to go to car lots and test drive cars, and just go look at new stuff.  Well Saturday morning we did our Saturday ritual and went and got Sonic breakfast burritos! YUM We didn't know what to do, but Michael knew it was President's Day weekend, so of course there would be good sales going on! We decided to go to Ogden's Carpet Outlet to look at carpet.
The carpet in our house was ok, but I really never liked it. It was berber which means it was very hard, and another thing is our Master bedroom and guest bedroom didn't have carpet in them at all, they had laminate flooring.  The laminate looked good, but I hated sweeping, and there were just too many dust bunnies to sweep up all the time.  Plus, when we got up in the morning we got out of bed onto a hard floor.... Anyway so we went to Ogden's just to see if they had a good deal... The guy there was helpful but the only thing he wanted to sell was a certain carpet that they had in stock. It was a nice good looking carpet but we didn't love it. He figured out the price for the installation and it was about $35.oo a square yard for everything. Well it was definitely in our price range but we didn't really love the carpet. We mostly just went to look to see about how much we would have to spend.  So we decided to just go down State Street and find other carpet stores.  We were driving along and right on 400 S. was Farnell's Discount Carpet or something like that. It was a ratty old building, but sometimes those places are the cheapest because they just want to make a sale.  Well anyway, we found a carpet that we really loved and it was only $21.00 a square yard installed! that is like $1500 in savings from Ogden's! I wanted to get that carpet right then, even though we were just looking, not really shopping.  Well, we decided to go to Home Depot just to check it out. We went in and asked for the same type of carpet and the ones the guy showed us were $37.oo a square foot! not to mention we also had to buy the installation and pad. So anyway, we decided to buy the carpet at Farnell's since we wanted new carpet and it was such a good deal. So Saturday night we went home and started shoving everything in closets, and bathrooms, and the kitchen so that we could empty our whole house out. The carpet was installed on Monday, we were so happy with Farnell's Carpet Store  Sorry if this bored you to death, but here are some pictures.

  1. You know, I never even saw your house before. Maybe that means that we should do something sometime.

  2. Looks great! Heather Z.'s family owns tons of rental properties and are always recarpeting. They are devotees of that store too.
